Mulberry Fruit (unique)
A developing or immature fruit
of mulberry, probably red mulberry, Morus rubra. That specific type
of fruit is called a drupe, formed by a number of closely packed, separate
female flowers. Interestingly, a third of those little flowers produce fruit
through parthenocarpy, meaning no pollen or male flower is involved at all!
At maturity, the mulberry drupe in quite juicy and sweet. That attracts
birds and animals to eat the fruit and to eventually spread the seed. Pretty
clever!
