Calcium  - Calcium is one of the 17 known essential elements.  When calcium builds up in cell walls (young trees) as a result from movement, it strengthens the truck.  Elements other than nitrogen such as calcium and magnesium, also accumulate in decomposing woody substrate.  (Maser and Trappe, 1984, pg 16-par2)
