Canker - A canker is defined as a localized lesion; a dead (symplastless) spot [Page 359 NTB]. Here are some real causes for the cankers: trees that normally grow in sun, growing in shade, and the opposite condition; trees that grow best in dry soils growing in wet soils, and the opposite condition; trees over pruned, and at the time leaves were forming; soil compaction; root injuries and root death [Page 357 NTB].
