Carbon -
Carbon is friendly -the mother element of life. Carbon is one of the six
basic chemicals of life. Six chemicals - carbon (C), hydrogen (H), oxygen
(O), nitrogen (N), sulfur (S) and phosphorus (P) - make up about 98 percent
of the weight of people and trees.
All living things require at least 16 essential elements. Carbon, hydrogen,
and oxygen combined make up carbohydrates. The bonds that hold the CHO
together are high energy yielding bonds. Carbohydrate is tree food [Page 243
