Cellulases  - Pits can be opened in cut wood by treating the wood with cellulases to digest the pit membranes.  Pits may also be opened by bacteria.  When freshly cut wood is ponded or floated in water, the bacteria may attack the pits.  Maybe this is the old secret!  [Page 281 NTB]
