Fixing Nitrogen  - Bacteria form nodules on the roots of many plants in the legume family.  These nodules FIX nitrogen which means that atmospheric nitrogen is combined with oxygen or hydrogen to form nitrate or ammonium ions which can be absorbed by the tree.
