BARK FISSURES

On this sample, from left to right.  SW and the Green Line is Sapwood.  The Red Arrow points to a thin line which is seen continuing around the sample.  This is the Cambium Zone.  The IB - Blue Line and Blue Arrow represents the Inner Bark or as it is called, the Phloem.  CB Line is the Corky Outer Bark.  The Fissure in the Outer Bark is Labeled.  The base of the fissure is where you may find cortex with chlorophyll in many tree species.
