Woody Root / Woody Stem

Below is a woody root and a woody stem of Honey locust.  There is significant anatomy differences.  Note that this sample is 100% dynamic mass.  Every place it can have a living cell it has one (Sample stained with I2KI).

Next picture is a woody stem and a woody root of the same tree.  Part of each sample is stained with I2KI which stains starch grains purple to black which is determined by the amount of starch as well as the amount of parenchyma cells present.  You can see how much darker the woody root is.  This is more the rule rather than the exception with trees we have dissected.
