Microbursts  - Microbursts are sharp, forceful updrafts resulting from wind hitting the ground and bouncing upward.  Microbursts have caused aircraft landing problems and crashes.  We believe microbursts are major causes of branch fractures.  Look at the splinters on the branch portion still on the tree.  If they point upward, the branch fractured from upward loading.
