Paraformaldehyde Pills  - Paraformaldehyde pills are used by the maple tapping industry to kill contact parenchyma cells.  They are placed in the tap holes thus stalling vessel plugging and sap flows longer.  Decay-causing fungi love it!  I hear that many over-tapped and pill-treated trees die from acid rain.  And there is much more.  For more, see the paper listed under SHIGO 2002 CD's "MAPLES - 03 PILL PAPER, TAPPING".
