Protoplasm  - The center of the parenchyma cell contains a living substance called protoplasm.  Protoplasm is the great amount of living substance within the thin walls of the parenchyma cells.  It moves, it wobbles, it is alive!

Fresh chips from symplast maintaining wood has protoplasm smeared all over the place.  This attracts undesirables that can and do do nasty things to trees above as well as below ground.  The solution is to allow the chips to compost for at least one year in a pile.
