Pruning Mature Trees

Pruning will move from removing branches maintaining a symplast (leaves) in young trees to removing symplastless (no leaves) branches in mature trees.  A young tree with 100% dynamic mass can have a rather large dose of symplast maintaining branches removed.  As little as possible should be removed from a mature tree.  Mature trees will have a greater number of symplastless branches compared to a younger tree.  See "Symplastless Branch Removal"
