Gymnosperms  - Gymnosperms have naked seeds.  Angiosperms have covered seeds.  Gymnosperms are plants such as conifers, which have tracheids, not vessels, e.g., pines, spruces and Douglas firs.  Click here for info from SHIGO, 2002 CD's.

Angiosperms have phenol-based substances mostly as protection compounds.  Gymnosperms have isoprene or terpene-based substances mostly as their protection compounds.
